About us
Happy Hearts Dog Rescue is a non-profit, volunteer based dog rescue in the Austin, TX area. We rely on volunteer foster homes to save dogs from kill shelters all across the state of Texas. It is our mission to find loving homes for forgotten dogs in desperate need of a chance to feel safe and loved. A lot of the dogs we save are on death row. Our rescue truly believes that every dog deserves a happy home.
How HHDR is different
As a smaller dog rescue, we are more hands-on, give extra attention to our fosters and are especially thorough when it comes to matching our rescues with their forever homes.
We provide our fosters with all the supplies they’ll need for their dog to thrive.
We send our dogs to their forever homes with their food, their doggy bed, their blanket and their toy so they have familiar things to help through the adjustment period.
We continue communication with adopters post placement to make sure the adjustment period is going smoothly; the dogs medical needs are being met; provide reminders when vaccines and/or spay/neuter surgery is due; and help adopters schedule their dog’s spay/neuter appointments.
We are a strictly foster home based rescue. We do not pull dogs from kill shelters until we have a confirmed foster home because we do not have a facility to house dogs.
Our Story
We are Alyson and Adri, the Co-Founders of Happy Hearts Dog Rescue. We started HHDR in July of 2018. Over the last few years, our little rescue has saved and placed over 500 dogs in loving forever homes. We met while volunteering for other rescue groups, and decided by joining forces, we could help save even more doggy lives. It has been a lot of hard work over the past four years, but it has been so incredibly fulfilling. Bringing families together and watching these once discarded beautiful dogs live their best lives has been the most rewarding experience for both of us. We look forward to continuing our mission to save as many dogs as we can from death row, and unite them with the forever families they were always meant to be with. We would not be able to accomplish all of this without the help of our amazing HHDR fosters and volunteers. We thank you for all your hard work and dedication!
